Just want to make bird lovers of Audlem aware of how important it is to keep bird baths free of ice and also to keep feeders topped up.

Birds can waste valuable energy making trips to bird tables and on doing so find there is no food.

Have any villagers had any less common birds visit their bird tables? I have had a blackcap in my garden. They belong to the warbler family and are becoming more common.

It's a fantastic bird but very bossy towards the other birds, particularly towards the sparrows.

Celia Bloor adds: "We had a Jay visit the garden a few times recently which is unusual for us. Afraid I wouldn't know if some of the 'little brown jobs' were unusual or not!"

Also, see yesterday's stories about Fieldfare, Redwing etc plus a very regular Sparrowhawk visit to another garden plus Chris Lewis' report on a Kingfisher and several of a Little Grebe on the canal.
