Five ways to wellbeing

The NHS in Cheshire is urging people to make healthy living their top New Year's Resolution for 2022.

The plea was made this week by NHS Cheshire CCG, which is promoting five ways to improve mental and physical wellbeing:

  • Connect with other people
  • Be physically active
  • Learn new skills
  • Give to others
  • Be mindful – pay attention to the present moment.

Dr Rebecca Banks, clinical lead for urgent and emergency care at the CCG, said: "With the New Year upon us, it's an ideal time for us all to take a positive approach to wellbeing.

"Evidence suggests there are five steps we can take to feel more positive and get the most out of life. For example, we should all try to spend quality time with our loved ones every day.

"Why not find free activities to help you get fit or try learning to cook a healthy new dish? We should all strive to pay more attention to the present moment, including our thoughts, feelings and the world around us.

"Acts of kindness can improve our mental wellbeing so let's all remember to say thank you to family, friends and colleagues for something they've done for us.

"By following the five ways to wellbeing, you'll be putting yourself in a great position to make the most of the New Year. A proactive approach to wellbeing is also an important part of self-care, which is something we can all practise to help ourselves and reduce pressure on the NHS during one of the most challenging winters it has faced."
