The inaugural Audlem Road Race was held last Sunday. The event was organised by the cycling club and attracted riders from across the North West.

The event format was for veteran cyclists with a number of age related categories minimum 40 years and no theoretical max that allow fair competition and the ability for older riders to participate in road racing.

The event HQ was in the Village Hall where we provided refreshments for the riders and road side marshals. We had about 50 participants which were split into 2 separate groups – under 50's and over 50's.

The youngsters had to tackle 5 laps of the circuit totalling 50miles while the Seniors managed one less. The finish was near Bridgemere School with the course taking in the A51 past Doddington, Walgherton to Stapeley and then back along the Audlem road.

Both races were fiercely contested with a bunch sprint settling the senior's race and a lone break capturing 1st on the other. This time the 2 ACC riders didn't make it to the podium, but perhaps next time.....

Feedback from the riders was positive to the race, and of course to the village which made a great setting.

We plan for another next year and by the enthusiasm of the riders this time they will make Audlem Road Race a date in their diary.
