Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service's Business Safety team is celebrating being shortlisted for a prestigious fire excellence award.

The title they are hoping for is "Community Fire Safety Project of the Year Award", which seeks to recognise the work the team has done to improve fire safety within all non-domestic premises in Cheshire, Halton and Warrington.

IFSEC are hosting the awards ceremony on Thursday, November 27th in London, and a number of fire and rescue services will be attending along with some of the best of the UKs security sectors.

The team primarily provides an advisory and educational role to help reduce the number of fires within business premises. Subjects highlighted by the team during fire safety visits to businesses include:

  • fire safety
  • arson prevention
  • false alarms
  • sprinklers

The Business Safety team also work closely with local businesses to raise awareness of responsibilities under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety Order) 2005, ensuring that people are as safe as possible when occupying or visiting business premises.

Keith Brooks, Head of Protection and Prevention will be attending the event on behalf of the team. He said: "This category has a number of fire and rescue services shortlisted so we are up against some tough competition. We are really pleased to have our Business Safety Team on the list."

The team actively promotes fire safety to business owners and works with partners helps us reduce the prospect of fires, particularly in lower risk premises where are inspectors might otherwise not visit.

The team also discuss business continuity as part of their visit, and have hosted three national fire protection conferences as part of their work.
