Final match of season for AFC

Well here we are. Last game of the season.
Wonderful sunny early summer's day. A day so full of promise. So lovely and the heady scent of the May blossom heavy in the air, as seen by my accompanying photo. Better to see that than to have a player. All have had their picture on previous weeks.

So – our opponents this day. Leighton F C , the team that spawned the "Harridan".
We meet and arrive at "Legends" playing club. Bentley's staff club. Well appointed and pitch perfect as befits the name of Bentley.

Just a band of 12 players. So many others not available for one reason or another, out for the day, etc. Kev Rodgers messaged me from Leighton just after midnight. Shattered big toe. He ends up being there for 5 hours amongst the detritus of a Saturday night in A&E.

Geoff and James Bebbington so limited in choosing the team.
Dan Morris even gets of his sick bed to be here and Iain Chalker travels here from Leeds to play! That is commitment by both players.

Wide open spaces and the pitch really full size. New Bentley showroom just over the hedge to our left. Opens in June in case you want a new car.

So, kick off at 11.03. Leighton 34 points above us in the table. But we did hold them to a 2-2 draw!

We shall see. We are sited on opposite sideline to LFC so no language problems or direct aggro. Audlem playing well (as I write that on my pad I wonder if I am tempting fate yet again.)
But within 22 minutes:
1-0 to us. A great cross by Will Ellis met by Kev Mort thundering forward and he fires it in the net.

30 minutes gone and we have 60/40 possession. They are getting rattled. We just have to keep it up.
Another crossing shot by Kev M goes wide.
Free kick to LFC. Saved by Connor.
Then a shot by LFC on the centre line and bang – it is in our net.
1-1 now
A corner to LFC. They score. A bl...dy stupid goal, stupid soft goal.
2-1 to them.

Then
3-1
4-1
4 goals in 6 minutes. 6 minutes!
Ref. blows up for half time.

Second Half

Kick off with the wind behind us now.
Blow me down, they score again.
5-1.
A cloud obscures the sun. Is it a sign from above?
Play goes on. Subs played. Big yell from Iain Chalker "they are just walking round us – tackle them ". He is so right.
Possession is now all to LFC.

Thankfully we concede no more goals.

Heads very down as we troop off at the final whistle of the season.

Now we have to re-apply to the League as we have finished in the last two places.
I doubt any team will vote for us to be excluded as they see us a source for points!

The new season begins on August 24th.
So goodbye for now . No more reports . Good or bad for many weeks.
