Tonight's FatPigeonLive Session features a collection of leading lights from the world of jazz. Recorded in Audlem earlier this month, the session showcases the talents of renowned trumpet player Ray Butcher, who travelled up with his band especially.

Ray is a sought after musician who's performed with Dr John, Mica Paris, Beverley Knight and a host of other stars. He's joined by Chris Young, widely recognised as one of the most significant young sax players to emerge onto the Birmingham Jazz scene in recent years.

Their rhythm section features Tim Amann on piano, Stuart Barker on double-bass, and the legendary Miles Levin on drums. Miles is the son of the late great Tony Levin who jazz aficionados will remember fondly from his days playing with Tubby Hayes at Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club in the 1960s. His son carries on the family tradition providing a tight syncopated beat for the performance.

If you haven't watched one of the FatPigeonLive Sessions before you'll no doubt be impressed with the quality of the filming. Your editor would find it hard to believe that the entire session was filmed in our very own public hall, were it not for the fact that I was there, tapping my feet and enjoying the truly splendid music.
