Faffers accept the Pau Challenge (and the Weather!)

An Audlem Ramblers sub-group (with the Chairman as a guest) accepted this challenge – the Pau Run and Ride O-Ring Orienteering Course (more details from Pau below).

Indeed, one member tried to duck out of the challenge claiming she had lost her compass and didn't know what an 8 digit grid reference was!

So last Saturday (7th Jan), an unexpectedly smiley group of 6 spent the first 45 minutes of their walk in torrential rain – but glorious sunshine followed (Sun shines on the rhighteous?).

The walk was about 5 miles and took about 2 1/2 hours.

A great idea from Pau -- enjoyed by the group and positive feedback was made to Pau – looking forward to the next one

From Pau:-

Pau has set up a couple of orienteering challenges around the Audlem area and would like to invite yourselves to try these out and, if possible, provide us with some feedback.

Both courses follow the format of the Scandinavian O-Ring format, wherein participants start at the shop and are given their first 8 figure OS grid reference to which they have to navigate. The long course is approximately 9km and the short course approximately 3.5km. All controls/markers are relatively discreet and will be removed by Monday 9th January 2023. These have also been located to encourage participants to follow relatively well-used rights of way and avoid multiple crossings of major roads.

We would like to develop this offering throughout the year ahead so that all abilities and ages are able to take part in a fun and challenging activity that develops their navigational skills and appreciation of the local countryside – alongside responsible use of this.

It would be great to work alongside yourselves to continue to offer these opportunities within Audlem, so if you'd be keen to try out the course and/or give us some expert feedback, we'd be more than happy to have a chat with you in the shop.
