Buerton WI held its final meeting last week after being forced to disband after Cheshire County Council closed Buerton School, the last community building in the village and where the WI branch had met for 57 years. The branch's 16 members, some with no transport, will now have to travel to WI branches in Audlem, Burleydam or Bridgemere.

The closure was marked by a party with a buffet and wine while musical entertainment was provided by the Crewe Male Voice Choir. More than 75 people attended the event including Jean Jones, a member of the WI since it was formed in 1949. She was presented with a bouquet to recognise her long association with the group.

There is a picture of the Buerton WI members in today's Chronicle.
