After 25 years of meeting in the Audlem Scout and Guide hall a decision was taken that a move to bigger premises was needed.

The membership had grown progressively and with up to 70 members attending the monthly meeting and some often staying to engage in workshop activities the Scout and Guide Hall was becoming too small for comfort.

A decision was taken to look at alternatives and other halls in the South Cheshire area were viewed and assessed by committee members. Fortunately we have the Audlem Public hall, which exactly fits our requirements. It has plenty of room for all our members and the flexibility to hold practical workshops.

Our transfer to the new premises took place on 21st April when 66 members met and had the opportunity to learn some new techniques from a renowned textile artist Lynda Monk who stayed and continued a day and half day workshop for 14 members.

Lynda Monk brought her wonderful pieces of work to show us and was very generous in passing on the techniques and knowledge she has gained over the years.

As everyone sat taking in all that was being told to us. Lynda suddenly passed round to each of us an A4 piece of paper, we all looked at one another in surprise. Ok what were we going to do? Lynda then had us all folding this A4 piece of paper, why? we wondered, but it soon became clear that this was a template for us to take home enabling us to create one of her lovely books.

For those of us who were lucky enough to stay for the workshop Lynda soon had us ironing tissue paper and fabric together. Then the magic started with the choosing of dyes and so the workshop continued.

The experience of meeting in new premises and being treated to an excellent speaker/tutor created a really exciting buzz amongst the members. Thanks go to Geoff Stretch for making us so welcome putting out the chairs and tables also John Gunstone for bringing his sound equipment.

The Public Hall already feels like our new home where we can grow and expand and help to keep the reputation of Audlem as a village where artistry flourishes and the place to be in South Cheshire.

New members are always welcome our next meeting is on May 19th 2016 and the speaker is Suzette Smart .Her topic will be 'Machine Embroidery'.

The door is open from 10.00am, as a visitor your entrance fee is just £4 which includes free tea or coffee and, of course, biscuits' You are allowed two visits to see if you like us enough to join.
