Following the news stories about the smelly drains in Shropshire Street over the past two days, Audlem Online has been advised of the latest position.

Cheshire East Council has been alerted to the problem of the blocked surface water gullies by an Audlem Parish Councillor and the job has been given the reference number 3186832.

An inspection should follow within five days then, at the discretion of the inspector, the potential job will be placed on a list of work where the inspector apparently sets the priority levels.

If nothing has happened by next Wednesday, perhaps local residents should call Cheshire East highways department quoting that number and ask what has happened about the inspection!

Cheshire East have been told that United Utilities will attempt to undertake a full survey of the sewerage system in the village to try and resolve the problem of the smell and also to update their maps and files as some sewer flows do not seem to be quite as expected.

This work, however, can only be done once the water gullies have been cleaned and unblocked by Cheshire East.
