Yesterday, Audlem Online reported on the complaints about the smells coming from the drains in Shropshire Street near the Co-operative food store and the fire station.

An update yesterday afternoon said that after a request by an Audlem parish councillor, United Utilities would be inspecting the drains within 48 hours.

That initial inspection has now taken place, albeit the smell was not as obvious today. The result will be, hopefully, a more detailed inspection with cameras and United Utilities are also to re-examine the issue of the planned local pumping station on the nearby development.

Various local surface water drains also appear blocked and Cheshire East Council is to be contacted about this separate problem as clearing these drains is their responsibility.

More when we have further details.
