As regular readers may recall, a Donkey Derby is planned for the RNLI Festival at Overwater Marina on 4th September.

There are to be 6 races, each with 6 donkeys. The organisers already have sponsors for each race and and sponsors for each of the 36 donkeys taken up by local individuals/businesses.

There's a £15 fee for each donkey so this will be a great fund raising event for the RNLI which should also be lots of fun.

There will be a Tote running for the Donkey Derby on the day so that people can bet on each race for added excitement – thus raising more funds for the RNLI.

Joe Hoyles of the Audlem Lass team, who is organising the Donkey Derby, says: "We are in the process of having a Race Card printed which will be on sale anytime soon, listing all the Races, Sponsors, Donkey Names and their Sponsors (Owners).

"As well as the Donkey Derby, there will be a dog show run by Steve Leonard, the TV Vet, and a dog agility demonstration – plus donkey rides after the Derby, together with the usual licensed bar, refreshments, stalls associated entertainment, and other such attractions."

"As yet, we have not yet reached the 36 riders for the donkeys so are encouraging interest from young riders aged between 8 and 15 – maximum weight limit is 8 stone – parental consent is also needed.
Each rider will need their own Sponsor at £2."
