Do you know the Holmes or Pidducks?

There is to be a local history exhibition at Cedar Court (new part of Corbrook Court) on the evening of Friday 26th and during the day on Saturday 27th March.

A lady from Stanstead is coming to visit it because her great aunt Maggie Holme was housekeeper for the Pidduck family who lived at the Court in the 1940s. Her great uncle Tom Holme was the gardener and they lived in the lodge at the entrance gate.

Her mother visited them on D-day and was given a lift out from the station to Corbrook Court by the local doctor (was this Dr Thornton snr?) and went to a dance in the Public Hall in aid of the Forces.

She was impressed by photos in Corbrook Court of the daughters of the family being presented at court and that Mrs Pidduck gardened wearing diamonds!

Does anyone remember the Holmes or the Pidducks? Would they like to be introduced to this lady? She will be staying at least one night and I shall pick her up from Crewe Station and show her round the village.

Please let Audlem Online know if you do. Details will be forwarded to Celia Bloor.
