Audlem 1st XI just failed in their bid to gain back-to-back promotions in their Cheshire Cricket Alliance fixture against fourth-placed Saughall today.

Fielding first they had a frustrating afternoon as Saughall piled on the runs and finished their 48 overs on 196 for 8.

After a poor start losing two cheap wickets, Andy Capper (29) and Rich Wilson (58) put Audlem in the driving seat with a stand of 109. When both were out within four balls of each other on 131, the complexion of the game changed. Audlem lost three more wickets for just ten runs as Saughall took the upper hand. In the end Audlem were all out 26 runs short of the target, with birthday-boy Tom Measures not out 26.

Just to add insult to injury, Frodsham beat Mossley to gain promotion to Division 1 with 359 points, with Saughall finishing third on 351 and Audlem fourth on 347. Unfortunately it was a disappointing end to a fantastic season.
