Delivery Scam

scam warning

My husband today received a text message from, what appeared to be, Hermes. It informed him that we had just missed an attempted delivery of an item we had ordered and invited us to click onto a link for a tracking app.

This seemed suspicious as Hermes have delivered many parcels to us and always email in advance to warn:-

  • we have your parcel, then
  • your parcel is out for delivery between 11 and 2

In further investigation we came across an article published today in a Cumbrian online newspaper which warned of this very scam. See below:-

  • "Cumbria Trading Standards are making residents aware of a fake Hermes text message that is circulating.
  • The text says: "Sorry we missed you earlier, we have your parcel, to book a redelivery follow the link."

The link then takes you through to a scam website.Cumbria Trading Standards are warning people to not click the link."

We thought residents of Audlem need to be aware as we were nearly fooled into clicking the link – so easy when we are buying so much online at present .

Editors Comment:- I have personally received similar messages purporting to be from Royal Mail,as well as countless calls from (allegedly)Amazon and a High Street Bank – these ones warning of large amounts of money being spent or otherwise transferred. My "favourite" is the alleged HMRC call warning that an arrest warrant has been issued on account of tax evasion! Sadly, some people dont put the 'phone down.
