Audlem Parish Council is unsure whether or not to go ahead with regeneration work at the Old Orchard site alongside the canal locks half a mile south of the village centre. British Waterways have offered the land which, years ago, was the site of a lock-keeper's cottage. There has been interest from villagers in restoring the orchard.

Following a recent inspection, however, Councillor Peter Morgan has raised concerns about the site. "I discovered two large blocks and an awful lot of rubbish at the site and we would have to cart heavy equipment down there to clear it up as there is no road access." It was also suggested there could be an underground well or cesspit at the site.

A letter has been sent to British Waterways to seek more information before taking any further steps. In the meantime, a volunteer has told Audlem Online she would be very keen to get involved in any future project there.
