Date set for Audlem chemist shop revamp

Work is to start on a major refit of the chemist in Cheshire Street in August and will take nearly a month to complete. Neighbours have been warned to expect some night noise as contractors gut the inside of the shop which was recently acquired by Boots Chemist.

The chemist will continue to operate dispensing services throughout the building work which starts on Saturday 8th August. Birmingham-based contractors Minortracts Builders Ltd estimate the revamp will be complete by Saturday 5th September.

"This will bring a better dispensing service and a fresher, more pleasant retail environment plus other added benefits to those using the store," said a spokesman.

Minortracts Builders have sent warning letters to neighbours to expect a certain amount of noise and disturbance during the refit but pledge to keep this to a minimum. Workmen will be on site from 8am to 8pm, including Saturday and Sunday throughout the operation. The letter warned: "We will need to carry out certain works overnight and have restricted this to low impact works such as laying vinyl flooring, decorating and cleaning. This has been programmed for five nights during the contract period."

However, neighbours have been told to expect demolition work, impact drilling of walls and other noisy operations throughout the day. They pledge not to carry out this type of work after 8pm. A Minortracts spokesman added: "Works have been carefully programmed to, hopefully, create as little disturbance to local residents as possible. Obviously the nature of the project, with such a short intense turn round, will create some local disturbance at certain stages. However, we have many years experience with works of this nature and have the control measures in place to limit disturbance as much as feasible."
