This month's Cheshire Life carries a wonderful story revealing that a south Cheshire based company, 'This Planet Earth Ltd', is manufacturing replicas of the Daleks from Dr Who in a secret location, secret, they say, to deter Dr Who fans. Unfortunately, there's not yet a shred of evidence to place the mystery factory in the Audlem area but you can at least buy Cheshire Life at Williams' newsagents, price £3.20, to find out more about this amazing local industry.

Managing director of 'This Planet Earth', Ian Clarke, gained an exclusive licence to make the life-size Dalek replicas from the BBC. He now employs a dozen staff and the replicas, moulded from an original Dalek used in the TV series, sell for around £2,000 with voice and working lights extra. The company also makes other items including Cybermen, K9 and the Tardis. Ian Clarke says he's pleased to have put Cheshire on the intergalactic map.

The secret factory doesn't have to be devoid of steps, by the way. Daleks learnt how to cope with them in the 25th series of Dr Who. Be warned, if you do see a Dalek locally, or even stumble across the factory's location, Cheshire Life's information file on them says: "Daleks have vicious tempers and are completely evil with no redeeming qualities whatsoever." So now you know what you get for £2,000!
