Cutting the cost of heating oil

If you are looking for ways to cut costs in the New Year, one sound way to consider is signing up with the Oil Baron.

Kevin Dawson, now has almost a third of local homes using his services. Kevin provides a wonderful community service where he negotiates a 'group' price with a reliable local supplier of heating oil who then group their deliveries so both the supplier and customer make savings.

You still pay the supplier directly, which has been the highly rated DA Roberts in recent years.

We now have over 225 members with Audlem addresses and in total over 760 members through South Cheshire and environs.

Since setting up the Oil Baron syndicate in 2008 we have:-

• Purchased over 3,500,000 litres
• Saved the Club members an estimated £155,000
• Created a members recommended Trades & Services directory,
• Helped members with AGA/Boiler/Tank problems
• Saved members from telephoning suppliers to obtain the best quotes
• Enabled members to order min of 500 litres to spread cash flow over a year
• Built up a trust in DA Roberts drivers for efficiency and courtesy

One very diligent member has kept a detailed analysis since 2011 of monthly Oil Baron prices versus the Web based Boiler Juice and 3 other competitive suppliers.

His results show that based on obtaining quotations for 500 litres that Oil Baron members have saved up to a massive £60 on deliveries with one outstanding case of £80 and whilst this is at the extreme end, regular savings in the high £20's can be achieved.

For the calculated savings of £155,000 for the group overall, I used the mean percentage saving of 9% which is on the lower side.

A new online ordering system does mean that there is now a nominal annual membership charge of £8.00, but all responses to this have been extremely positive. The December price for the Oil Baron Group was 39.30p per litre the lowest since Jan 2010.
