This month the volunteer Lock Keepers / Lock Rangers based in Audlem have taken advantage of a spell of mild weather to get involved in some of the smaller jobs that require our focus.
After this months safety brief for the varied tasks had been delivered by 'Ange' our team leader who is a full time employee with the Canal and River Trust the group placed the appropriate danger men at work signage and all other safety barriers around the area of work. The C & R T had supplied the various replacement signage and other equipment required.
On a message received from the Parish Council the team also carried out an inspection of all of the 'dog waste bins' that are conveniently placed on the canal flight, our check confirmed that one of the bins required replacement, we would like to report 'Job Done' photograph attached.
The group have also been involved in fixing a brand new 'Green Flag Winners Sign' showing the achievements made by the Canal & River Trust in environmental standards, maintenance and excellent visitor facilities in and around the canal, the Green Flag assessment report also praised the contribution made by the volunteers in keeping the canal in great shape for visitors.
Old and slightly weathered 'no parking signs' around the wharf area and other various C & R T signage has been cleaned and updated.
Also a village information sign has been temporarily removed for refurbishment from the wharf area at the request of the Parish Council. The sign is stored in the C & R T compound awaiting collection.
As always another very successful task force day was completed by 10 (yes that is ten) C & R T volunteers and as normal there was a plentiful supply of hot tea and coffee freely available in our covered accommodation. The Audlem Volunteer Lock Keepers look forward to your company if you feel like getting involved and joining us in the various and greatly rewarding tasks.
Also as a foot note to this months report, the Canal & River Trust are making 'great use' of the Audlem Public Hall Annex by running refresher / induction days for Returning Volunteer Lock Keepers on Monday 12th March and on Monday 19th March a Volunteer Lock Keepers Health and Safety Training Day.
