This month the Volunteer Lock Keepers, Lock Rangers actually met a day early, Friday 8th June to carry out some preparation work for the regular Saturday Task Force Day 9th June.

On the Friday as normal our Volunteer Team Leader 'Ange' carried out the safety brief for the days various tasks. They involved clearing overgrown brambles etc. from the path that leads up from the Shroppie Fly car park on to the village playing field and tennis courts, the programme of work also included working in the road that leads down from the Bridge Inn towards the Audlem Mill Shop, a safety fence had been broken next to the steps down to the canal, new posts have been fitted with a new rail, job done, thank you Willie.

Also the programme involved the assistance of another full time member of C & R T staff 'Jim Stretch', through circumstances beyond our control the canal wheely bin waste compound was close to overflowing, the waste removal company attended site and with Ange and Jim's focus the site was returned to normal. Other volunteer lock keepers carried on with our core activity of general lock keeping.

Saturday 9th, another fine day, again after the safety brief 'Ange' was delighted to present one of our team members 'Robbo' with his 'Certificate of Competence' plus his '100 volunteering hours' bone china mug. The main photo shows Ange presenting Robbo with his certificate.

The rest of the volunteer team then split up to paint the gates on lock 14.

The remainder of the team also split, one group to assist a single handed boater up the flight of locks with the remaining 3 persons focused on strimming the raised embankment from the Bridge Inn down to the Audlem Mill Shop, this included brushing grass cuttings from the road way and canal tow path.

As normal hot and cold drinks were supplied for all team members plus again this month we were handed an extremely tasty 'bacon roll plus egg rolls for those who preferred' all just at the right time, 'thank you to Robbo' for his skills with the frying pan plus the red and brown sauce! Photo attached.

To close this months report and for information to all, next months Volunteer Task Force Day will be held on Friday 13th July with a 10:00 start, as normal you are all more than welcome to join us for a day of interesting and rewarding work.

BUT please telephone to confirm your attendance if you are going to join us, as we will have to up our order of bread rolls and bacon!
