Following their winter net practice, Audlem’s cricketers start their 2012 Cheshire Cricket Alliance season in just over two weeks’ time on Saturday 21st April.  Today we look at the 1st XI with skipper Chris Shenton.

Last season the 1st XI reached the semi-finals of the knockout cup.  After two seasons of just missing out on promotion, the Division 2 campaign begins with a difficult match at Holmes Chapel.

Chris is hoping that the team will be more consistent this year and push for promotion to Division 1 and maybe have another good cup run.  Whilst the team has lost the services of long serving opening batsmen Andy Capper, who has retired, it will be strengthened by the return of young quick opening bowler Simon Swift.

Chris is looking to the new top order of Andy Rothwell, Rich Wilson and Paddy Leese to pile on the runs and for Swift, in company with Stuart Elkes, Neil Humphries, Lyndon Woodcock and returning students Kemal Toraman and Olly Burney to be amongst the wickets.

In addition, he will also be looking for big seasons from recent signings Qhama Matthews and Tom Kural, who contribute with both bat and ball.

The team begins its cup campaign with a 1st round match at home to Wilmslow Wayfarers the following day, Sunday 22nd April.  Chris is encouraging anyone who wants to go along and give their support, stating that they will be very welcome.  The 40-overs-a-side match starts at 2 pm.
