The new season of needlework and craft courses at Audlem Mill starts on 6 October, and continues through to April next year.


There's a wide selection of subjects, from crewel work to boat fenders, and rag rugs to goldwork. Although you will learn a new skill, you'll also have an enjoyable day, and a laugh with good company – and a good lunch.

Boat Fender Making (2 day course)
Make (and take away) fenders using traditional techniques of crowning and half-hitching.' Includes a kit with all materials.
20/21st October and 9/10th March
3/4th November- advanced course (NOT beginners)
Tutor: Brian McGuigan, Waterways Craft Guild

Rag Rugging
Learn the basic methods of rag rug making, including the different materials and tools used.  Please bring T-shirts or other materials to cut up into strips to make your rug, and scissors.
14th October, 20th April
Tutor: Alison Rose, Rose Tinted Creations

Rug Hooking
A traditional variation of rag rugging.  Learn how to paint a picture with recycled textiles! Hessian and designs provided for a cushion cover or wall-hanging- please bring scissors and T-shirts or other stretchy materials to cut up.
6th October.
Tutor: Clare Blythe, Lincolnshire Hookers

Stumpwork
Enjoy this lovely form of raised embroidery using traditional techniques including wiring, wrapping and padding.
7th November

Knitting for Improvers
You can knit, but want to learn more techniques (we'll try to accommodate your specific requirement).
13th October, 21st April

Cabin Crochet
Learn how to make traditional narrow boat crochet pieces.
23rd March (beginners), 24th March (improvers)

Felt  Making
Felting techniques to fully explore the medium. Felt is wonderful to work with and your imagination is the only limit!
25th November
Tutor: Alison Rose, Rose Tinted Creations

Goldwork
The use of Jap and its many facets, and of the main goldwork wires, an introduction to new threads, and applications and techniques.  You will produce a piece during the course.
10th November
Tutor: Sarah Rakestraw, Golden Hinde


The Spiderweb Experience
Learn how to make a bookmark, canal boatman's belt or other piece of work using spiderweb stitches. Course fee includes materials to make your project.
24th November
Tutor: Mary Parry, Waterways Craft Guild

Crewel Work
Using Appletons wools on linen twill, you will learn a variety of interesting and traditional stitches while creating a lovely Jacobean Flower design. Perfect for beginners/improvers.
18th November
Tutor: Nicola Hulme, The Silver Thimble

Traditional Canal Bonnets (2 day course)
Introduction to making a canal boatwoman's bonnet.  Kit and instructions to make your own bonnet are provided.  Please bring your own sewing machine and scissors for fabric.
1st/2nd December and 6/7th April
