We are sorry to announce the death on Saturday of Allan Richardson, a serving Cheshire East councillor for the Cholmondeley ward which includes the Audlem area. He was previously a county councillor in the Cheshire County Council and was well-known to many local residents. We understand he would have been 90 later this year.

Born in Cheshire, he lived at Woodcott House Farm in Wrenbury Heath with his wife Shirley. He was semi-retired from his farming and his business interests and was a life-member of the National Farmers' Union.

Allan Richardson has been a local councillor for over 25 years, including 13 years as Leader of the County Council. He was awarded the OBE for his part in the reorganisation of the water industry. He was a governor of Sound School and was made a Deputy Lieutenant of Cheshire for his long record of dedicated service to the people of Cheshire

In 2008 he was elected as one of the three Conservative councillors for the Cheshire East's Cholmondeley Ward, which covers Audlem and surrounding parishes. As well as the Council itself, he served on its Scrutiny committee.
