Council rejects Gladman plan

Cheshire East's Strategic Planning Board this afternoon refused unanimously Gladman's second application to build up to 120 dwellings at Little Heath.

The developer had accepted dropping the number of properties from 120 to 115 and had offered originally £100,000 – dropped to £95,833 because of the reduction in properties – for medical facilities, but councillors were as unimpressed with the plans as in October when they rejected the original proposal.

The original decision last year was after Gladman had already gone to Appeal because of non-determination within the 13-weeks allowed for consideration by Cheshire East.

The report by planning officers to councillors recommended refusal of this second application because it was unsustainable and the authority can demonstrate a 5-year supply of housing land; it will result in the loss of the best and most versatile agricultural land and the removal of an important hedgerow.

Planning officers recommended to councillors that four other reasons for refusal last October should be dropped and the appeal to Inspectors on the original Gladman application be fought on the three reasons above. Councillors were asked to agree to these changes and again voted unanimously to do so.
