Congratulations to the 5As on the completion last night of their highly successful run of Sleeping Beauty. There will be many exhausted thespians in the village this morning as yesterday the theatre group performed twice with both matinee and evening shows. For those that missed it, this was Audlem Online's review of the panto, published after Wednesday's excellent first night show – and we hear the performances got better and better: indeed, last night finished with a long standing ovation!

The first night audience for the 5As Panto 'Sleeping Beauty' was promised a show that: "Will blow your mind"; "Has the biggest cast ever"; "With an average age of 11," and is "Fresh from appearing on national TV". After an introduction like that, expectations were high – Oh Yes, they were!

For once, the hype was spot on. We knew we were in for a night to remember as the audience was told to be upstanding, indeed, fully erect for the entrance of the King and Queen! What could they mean, we pondered, as we all stood up so obediently. The audience, from that moment on, took on a starring role, roaring their approval throughout a triumphant night for the cast and production team alike. Regulars said it was the best ever 5As production yet and: "Oh Yes, it was!"

It's a huge cast, handled with consummate skill by the production team. Narrator and writer, Colin Cliffe, has a starring role, later, inevitably as the Frenchman Gaston, preparing for the biggest fart, or was that, "fight" of his life. The double-entendres flowed, so much so you wondered if they would dare deliver them all at the additional pre-watershed Saturday matinee performance.

There were excellent performances from all but a special word about the youngsters. The children of the chorus delighted the audience with every number, enhanced by the choreography, the set, costumes, lighting and sound, all out of the top drawer.

The show finished right royally with the Queen number 'Don't Stop Me Now'. The entire cast belted out the line: "Tonight I'm gonna have myself a real good time". And we all did – it was fun all night, truly great entertainment.

Finally, a serious word. If ever you meet somebody from across this land, a true sceptic perhaps, that questions the proposition that Audlem is the country's finest community bar none, simply beg, borrow or give them your ticket to a 5As Panto. Seeing every generation working together, enjoying themselves thoroughly, and putting on a show to remember will convince anybody – and that's guaranteed.
