Readers have contacted Audlem Online about Stuart's retirement from his milk delivery round after no less than forty eight years. Stuart, who was sixty five earlier this year, has been on the round six days a week since he was seventeen.

A number have asked whether there will be a collection so that a presentation of a retirement gift can be arranged.

Lynne Smith says that the Post Office has a collection box if anyone would like to contribute. There's also going to be a collection at Williams' newsagents.

Judy Benson of Williams has sent in a Chatbox message from Malta. She says: "Yes, I will happily organise a collection for Stuart, or 'Dad' as I like to call him (only joking Derek!). We've always supported him ourselves personally, and more recently, in the shop too – so it would be a pleasure.

She adds: "If people want to leave money and/or small gifts in the shop for him, I will make them into a formal collection of the village's appreciation. Could anyone wishing to do so please wait until Friday 29th October as I am currently in Malta at the moment!"

Audlem Online published the news of Stuart's retirement only yesterday when his many customers found a note with their milk confirming the new delivery arrangements.
