Jackie Kubis, who lives in Lightwood Green, is getting ready for her latest challenge to raise money for St Luke's Hospice.

This week's Chronicle features Jackie, who is tacking a coast-to-coast bike ride as part of a series of challenges in memory of a family friend who passed away at St Luke's.

The former Brine Leas pupil, now aged 23, has scaled Snowdon, Scafell Pike and Ben Nevis before going on to do a sky dive. She's also swum six miles and completed the Three Peaks Challenge ahead of her final fundraising trip.

Now she's off on the route across northern England from St Bees Head, near Whitehaven in Cumbria, to Robin Hood Bay on the Yorkshire coast near Whitby, all to raise money for the Winsford hospice.

Started in AprilJackie says: "I started in April and wanted to do a challenge a month. It has been an unbelievable experience and I've enjoyed every minute. My friend, Sally Kent, has been helping and supporting me all the way.

"We've seen it as a great opportunity to get fit and raise money for a worthy cause."

She plans to cycle 35 to 40 miles a day on average on the coast-to-coast ride and she expects it to be a bit easier than some of the challenges, particularly the Three Peaks.

Student nurse Jackie is still £400 short of her fund-raising target of £1,000. If you want to help, visit www.justgiving.com/jackiekubis
