Cider and Perry this weekend

Over recent days, Audlem Online has been describing the amazing range of beers available at this weekend's Audlem Beer Festival.

There's a great choice too for cider lovers, including some Cheshire ciders which may be new to most. So here they are:

Nook's Yard Cheshire Cider – Medium – 7.0%: Hand-picked apples from local Cheshire orchards are hand-pressed and fermented with traditional Dabinett and Michelin vintage cider fruit from Herefordshire.  A slightly hazy, deep amber coloured cider that is tannin-rich with low acidity and overall earthy roundness. The fermentation is stopped before all the sugar ferments to leave some sweetness.

This cider won Silver in the Medium Cider class at The Big Apple, Herefordshire – so it can really stand on its own with other established cider makers.

Nook's Yard Single Variety – Medium – 6.8%: Hand-pressed from a single-variety of vintage Herefordshire cider apple – the Ellis Bitter. Don't be put off by the name! This golden straw coloured cider has subtle tannins, low acidity and abalancing sweetness.

There's a range of perry and cider from Premium Drinks including Passion Fruit Perry; Cherry Perry; Peach Perry; Strawberry Cider and Raspberry Cider. 

Whiteheads Devils Device Cider: An 8.4% scrumpy available at special request! Almost all the apples and pears Mr. Whitehead's Cider Company use are grown on the south-east facing Hampshire Downs of the Blackmoor Farm Estate in Selborne, one of the most respected growers in the south of England.

Sandford Orchards Bumbleberry Cider: Apples, Strawberries, Blackcurrants, Raspberries and Blackberries – marvelous fruit cider.

Sandford Orchards Fanny's Bramble Cider: Still purple cider. A marriage made in a Devon lane. Blackberries and cider, a fruity joyous light and easy cider.

Westcrofts Janets Jungle Juice Med Cider: West Croft Cider is one of the very few pure juice, craft cidermakers left in the Country.

In 2007 West Croft Janet's Jungle Juice was voted Champion Cider of Great Britain by CAMRA at the Great British Beer Festival (from a blind tasting of over 150 ciders). In 2008 JJJ was runner up for the same award.  No other cider has been been so successful.

Glastonbury Scruffy's Bite Apple & Pear Cider: We don't know too much about this one – except it's made from apples and pears...  

Glastonbury Soap Dodger Medium Cider: And we guarantee this isn't made from soap! 

Broad Oak Moonshine Med Cider: 7.5%ABV and from Clutton Farm, in Clutton, Somerset.  Brian Blunt has been making cider and perry of all sorts for over 30 years and popular interest in his products helped turn the Original Cider Company business into one of the country's biggest independent producers. Brian describes Moonshine as an extra strength cider skilfully blended and matured at Broadoak to impart a crisp refreshing taste.

Westons Country Perry: Established in 1880, Westons perry and cider has been made in the Herefordshire village of Much Marcle. The range is best quality and traditional with a flavour simply bursting with fruit 

Westons Bound Brand Scrumpy: A crisp, dry, fruity, traditional, cloudy Scrumpy cider.

Westons Traditional Scrumpy:  A hearty and wholesome cloudy cider. Sufficiently strong to satisfy but not too sweet to smother the mature flavour of traditional bittersweet apples.

Westons Old Rosie: Award winning Old Rosie Scrumpy is allowed to settle out naturally after fermentation resulting in a truly old fashioned, full flavoured, appley, cloudy scrumpy; with a well balanced medium dry character.

Makes you thirsty just reading it! The Festival is on Saturday, Sunday and August Bank Holiday at the Lord Combermere in the very centre of Audlem.
