This week's Chronicle reports on the launch of the Audlem First Responders. Under the headline "Ambulance reponder fight ends in victory", reporter Jamie Oliver describes the long-running battle to get a first responder team based in the village. The four-strong group of volunteers – Nikki Ball; Tim Ball; Jane Palin and Andy Roscoe-Icke – are pictured with parish councillor Mike Hill who has led the fight to establish the team.

The four volunteers have completed their training and will be responding to those calls forwarded to them by the NWAS (North West Ambulance Service) to provide assistance to patients until an ambulance arrives.

Nikki Ball says: "This will definitely be a good thing for the village. Being based in the countryside, you expect that it will take a little longer for medical help to arrive, but we can now provide that vital link between patient and an ambulance arriving."

Nikki added: "We are in situations where time is of the essence and if somebody is having a heart attack or going into cardiac arrest, the action we take in the first couple of minutes could prove vital."

Parish Councillor Mike Hill has led the drive to get a First Responder group up and running in Audlem. Thanks to his efforts, a car has been provided by Cheshire Constabulary and car servicing will be provided by James Gorse Motors in Wrenbury. A number of businesses have provided generous sponsorship – Muller Dairy UK Ltd in Market Drayton; local builder Mark Ellis; Morris Care, the operators of Corbrook Court and Audlem Parish Council. The equipment is provided by the NHS.

Other volunteers are still needed so, if you are interested, please contact Community Responder manager Robert Hussey on 0151 296 1931 or 07768 032737. Or contact Mike Hill on 01270 811843 or Audlem Online will forward any details you send to the webteam on to Mike.
