Ralph Warburton, chairman of ADAS, writes: "Today – Sunday – we cut the big Christmas tree from the plantation owned by Mrs Sue Williams of Willaston. Richard Furber, Mike Haines and Pete Hollinshead all turned up along with myself in the poor weather. Pete cut it very professionaly – allowing a soft fall. Richard carted it away to the yard of Jonathan Gleave in readiness for installation on the 29th. It is 13 metres tall and is 21 years old. Trimming to fit the position in the square will mean a reduction to about 12 metres.

This year's tree is sponsored By Carl Mottishead of Leisure Surfaces, to whom we are most grateful. Meanwhile, some 50 small Christmas trees are at Buerton House and ADAS committee members will be busy lighting these up ready for next weekend and the big switch on.

In addition, 1,000 new tulip bulbs were planted today and new tubs placed on the Lord Combermere flower bed so that we have a good display in April and May next year. A good job done in lousy weather. We hope you will appreciate our efforts over the next few weeks and in the Spring."
