As people's thoughts turn to Christmas, Nantwich Rotary Club have, once again, been encouraging and supporting local school children to fill 'charity shoe boxes' for young people in Eastern Europe to receive some 'festive cheer'.

Working in groups, some selected toys for the younger members of a family, others focussed on cosmetic items for teenagers and the rest donated items for the household.

Brine Leas students are pictured with some of the 100 filled boxes, which are now on their way to Tirana in Albania, Iasi in eastern Romania and near Odessa in Moldova.

Katie Batten, who co-ordinated the project withTony Coxhill, ex President of Nantwich Rotary Club and Michael Parrott Chair of their International Committee, commentated: "We would like to thank the Rotary Club for inviting us to take part in this splendid project, which helps our students appreciate that there are many young people not as fortunate as others."

The photo shows Patrick Nevill, Sam Spencer, Hannah Fradley, Emily Wrigley and Maddie Ashbrook carrying the boxes to the collection point.
