2014 marks the centenary of the brownies
Twenty-two Audlem brownies celebrated the start of the centenary by travelling by coach to Macclesfield where they joined one thousand brownies from East Cheshire to 'blast off' this special year.
After an afternoon of circus performers, acrobats and a lot of noise they were left in no doubt that we will be having a great year. This was especially so for Jessica Smith, Jenna Gavin, Katie Francis and Scarlett Lawrence (see photograph) who were lucky to be part of 135 Cheshire Brownies who went to Disneyland Paris during the half- term break.
They travelled overnight to France and spent the first day in the Disney Studio Park. After a good night's sleep, they went to the main park only returning to their coach after the firework display. They reported that the return journey through the tunnel was extremely quick! No doubt due to their exhaustion.
Our thanks to the guiders from Cheshire border who gave uptheir time to organise this trip.
In May, we will be joining brownies from Crewe and Nantwich for an afternoon of games, inflatables and a disco.
The summer solstice will see all the brownies from Cheshire border and Cheshire forest gathering at Tabley for 'Starburst'. This will be the highlight of the celebrations, with around 1500 girls visiting past, present and future zones, meeting the chief guide and for a lucky 300 the chance to sleepover in one of the large marquees.
Anyone wishing to place their daughter's name on the brownie waiting list, or volunteer as an adult must do so through the Girl Guiding website.
Visit www. girlguiding.org.uk and click on the 'Get Involved' bar and a series of steps will allow you to register your details. Please be aware, however, that the unit is oversubscribed.
