As this evening's Party on the Park gets under way, we should reflect on

Twenty Years of ASET

This is a special year for The Audlem Special Events Team as we celebrate our 20th Anniversary and we thought it would be appropriate to tell you how Party on the Park began.

An idea was circulated between friends in a local pub (all the best ideas usually are) about having the Last Night of the Proms projected onto a big screen on the playing field but it quickly became obvious that this wasn't feasible due to the enormity of the costs and copyright laws. However the spark had been lit and an alternative concept of Audlem's very own Proms on the Park was born. We had no experience and no money but what we did have was determination to do something for our village. We begged and borrowed and generous sponsors and helpers came on board to assist us with our plan. That first Proms on the Park was a nerve-wracking experience for the team, would we cover the costs? would people come? but they did and the rest as they say is history.

As tastes in music changed so the Proms on the Park evolved to what it is today, Party on the Park, and it is estimated that over the last 20 years these concerts have attracted in excess of 50,000 people. None of these events would have been possible without the continued support of our generous sponsors, programme advertisers, our loyal helpers with their sheer stamina, and YOU for buying the tickets and creating a wonderful party atmosphere.

Every year costs to stage this event increase and stress levels rise and we question whether we can do it all again the following year but five minutes into the night as we watch the party come to life and families, friends and villagers get together to enjoy themselves we know we will.
