'We Still Need You' – new veteran support project launches in Cheshire East

Cheshire East has a proud and enduring history of military service, with generations of armed forces personnel calling the county home.

Today, we honour not only their service but the quiet strength it takes to balance military duty with everyday life--the pressure, the pride, the sacrifice, and sometimes, the silence.

That's why Cheshire East Council is proud to support the launch of 'We Still Need You'--a groundbreaking new project from Mentell, funded by the Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust. This initiative is designed to support male veterans in our community by offering safe, confidential spaces to talk, and empowering them to give back through peer-to-peer support.

With 120 fully funded places over two years, the project will provide veterans with professional training, weekly mentorship, and transformative retreat experiences. More than just support, it's a chance to rediscover purpose and connection.

Councillor Anthony Harrison, Cheshire East Council's Armed Forces Member Champion, said: "Behind every uniform is a story of courage, resilience, and often, untold struggle. 'We Still Need You' is a powerful reminder that our veterans continue to have so much to offer.

"This project not only supports their wellbeing but gives them the tools to support others. We are proud to stand with Mentell in delivering this vital work."

Developed in partnership with Cheshire East Council, Armed Forces HQ CIC, and the Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust, this initiative reflects a shared commitment to the health and wellbeing of our veteran community.

Andy Walker, co-founder of Mentell, said: "This project is the first of its kind and has been shaped and created by Mentell veteran service users. We are proud to be launching 'We Still Need You' in partnership with Cheshire East, and not only supporting the wellbeing of veterans but proving that veterans still have so much to give.

"To all veterans: your service mattered then, and it still matters now. This week, we launch something for the men who've already given so much. And we're proud to stand with you."
