Ed: In response to Beryl Cole's concern over cattle grid fencing at Highfields farm we have received two responses, one from Norman Huntbach shown here and another from the Wynstanley Family in the next article. we hope this helps clarify the position.

The electric wires are there to stop the cleverer animals from crossing the grid and are at this level to allow unrestricted vehicular access.

If walkers and riders are keeping to the definitive path as confirmed by the footpaths officer then they would be using the gate alongside rather than trying to cross a slippery cattle grid.

Thought I would clear this up on behalf of the landowner.
