Readers might have missed the fact that as reported by AOL, Audlem Parish Council's meeting report for January stated that they had approved the submission for an application to the Police Community Cashback Fund to improve the Turnpike Field entrance off Green Lane.
It met the criteria and supported one of the six aims of the Police and Crime Plan -- improving Road Safety. Also by potentially reducing traffic congestion in the village, further safety improvements could be made.
The application is to widen the entrance, install a security gate and height barrier that would be set back from the road by 15m so that two vehicles could enter and leave and have a much safer view of the road in both directions. A firmer base would also be made.
The application was enthusiastically supported by our Community Police Support Officer as a means of potentially improving safety for vehicles and pedestrians by reducing parking problems.
Applications closed on the 27th January – so we await the outcome with bated breath!
