Over 250 people were estimated to have joined the march on Saturday to protest at the proposed Audlem car park charges from Cheshire East. It is very much hoped that the CE council will listen to the depth of feeling held within the village that the car park should remain free.

The procession was was led by a horse drawn hearse to symbolise the potential damage to the village these proposals could cause.

Brian Bugeja and team who organised the event in his closing speech made the following points.

Audlem's small central car park provides:

  • Free access to the medical centre for outlying houses and villages.
  • Free access to Audlem cemetery as available in Crewe and Macclesfield etc
  • Free access to Audlem Playing field for both local teams and visiting teams who do not have to pay when playing elsewhere.
  • Visitors and carers to the Village Hall for elderly people for ADCA events will no longer have free car parking
  • Groups such as Probus using the Village Hall who have some 40 % of members from outside the village face nearly doubling of their costs of attending
  • The car park is the only place to provide free access to the village businesses. Other towns who have larger supermarkets have free parking arrangements

The people marching on Saturday urged Cheshire East to listen to their protests and think again
