Why this petition matters

Bryony Nixon

As a resident of Audlem, I am deeply concerned about the Cheshire East's plan to impose parking fees in our village car park while simultaneously reducing the availability of on-street parking. This decision directly impacts the viability of our community and threatens the accessibility and convenience we currently enjoy.

Audlem is a vibrant village that is an acknowledged rural hub servicing numerous smaller villages and hamlets in the surrounding countryside. As well as attracting visitors from far and wide who come to experience its unique charm, local businesses, and community events, Audlem provides essential infrastructure to the wider rural community.

This cynical proposal of not only imposing charges for the car park but also reducing on street parking by extending double yellow lines on side roads near the heart of the village will force people to pay for parking when visiting essential services and by reducing parking availability overall, deter people from visiting at all. People will have to pay to park to visit the doctors, the village park, the Post Office, even attend church or pick up a loaf of bread.

In 2020-21 following the completion of a survey, Cheshire East deemed parking fees to be unsuitable for Audlem car park and yet now they are proposing them when little has changed.

It will become increasingly difficult for people to find suitable parking spots, these proposals would leave us with only 20 on-street (& time limited) parking spaces as free parking in the heart of the village.

By signing this petition, you are standing up against unfair parking fees in our village car park while also demanding an adequate provision of on-street parking. Together, we can protect the viability of our community and preserve Audlem as a welcoming destination for residents and visitors alike.

Thank you for your support in safeguarding the accessibility and vitality of Audlem!
