September Report

Well, as normal the Canal and River Trust Volunteers based in Audlem met under a bright sky outside their covered accommodation.

After the day's site programme of work and safety brief had been 'rolled out' by our Team Leader, two members of the team began assisting passing boat traffic up the flight.

The rest of the group, six of us including the Team Leader, loaded all the equipment required for the day into the Canal & River Trust van.

The equipment included brushes, paint, hedge cutters and 'men at work' signage, all transported up to the road bridge at lock 3.

With the weather still looking fairly settled the team started with preparing / scraping and clearing the gates at lock 4, plus cutting back brambles and overgrown bushes.

At this moment in time all went well, weather good, bright and breezy, the other work clearing and freshening up the area was all but complete!

....And Down Came the Rain...

The teas and coffees were poured and the group stood back to admire their efforts, all looking good, then as if by magic, the clouds darkened and down came the rain – 'heavy rain'

A decision was made to call a halt to the work programme and all the equipment was loaded back in to our transport and we returned to the comfort (dry) of our covered accommodation, if all a little damp. Again the teas and coffees were poured as we unloaded the van. Although a damp day we had covered all aspects of the days work programme.

Friday 12th October

For information our next Towpath Task Force Day is programmed for Friday 12th October, as always members of the Volunteering Lock Keeping Team are on duty most days on the Audlem Flight of locks.
