Canal River Trust Report – Audlem Volunteers

Last Thursday 17th and Friday 18th May the 'A Team' met to carry on the pre-programmed plan of continuing the repairs to the canal tow path. this time lock 14 up towards lock 13.

As normal the system of work safety brief was given by our lead volunteer, Ange Barnett a full time employee with the Canal & River Trust.

Warning signs were sited to cover the area of work, this time again we were involved in moving a large quantity of tow path grit / gravel material from the Shroppie Fly car park in motorised wheel barrows.

The weather was perfect for the two days work, all went as planned supported by 12 volunteers on both days.

Also for information please see photographs of a large cake supplied by the wife of one of the volunteers, plus a big thank you to 'Robbo' again one of the volunteers and our resident chef for his skills with the barbecue in cooking 'bacon rolls' for lunch, all food supplied was very tasty and extremely welcome.

Canal walkers will note that there are still some 'gaps in the grit' as always, work in progress, we still have around 10 tonnes of grit plus 3 tonnes of soil to move down on to site.

If you would like to join in the activity the Volunteer Lock Keepers will keep you advised as to when our next 'Extra Task Force Day is due'.........who
knows? There may be another cake on offer!
