Canal opens for Father Xmas

We understand that, in spite of major works on the canal from now until December 21st, there will be water in the section of canal by the Shroppie Fly so that Father Xmas can make his grand entry for the Big Switch On on November 29th.

Apparently the Canal & RiverTrust (the charitable organisation which has taken over from British Waterways to run the canal system) has decided that the essential works should be organised so as not to disappoint all those looking forward to Father Xmas's appearance at the event.

Good to see a national organisastion taking some account of local events!
