Canal closed

The Shropshire Union canal is closed at present because of a hole in the bed of the canal at Shebdon, to the south of Market Drayton in Staffordshire.

The closure is likely to cause significent disruption to holiday traffic with boats unable to move as it is expected to last until Wednesday 19th August. In the meantime, all boats must stay at their current mooring and the locks in Audlem and elsewhere are closed and must not be used.

Our thanks to Peter Silvester of the Canal Shop and to others who rang after the news first began to circulate that there had been a breach. We will bring further news when it is available.
