This last week has seen a busy week for members and their guests.

Tuesday started with a visit to Ness Gardens and Port Sunlight on the Wirral.

The day started with a slightly delayed start – the coach having to negotiate the many traffic lights on the Nantwich – Audlem road and not being able to park on the car park.
Nevertheless we were soon underway via Chester to Ness gardens for a tour of the 64 acres site.

A very pleasant morning in Ness gardens which was blooming at this time of year.Ness Gardens was founded in 1898 by Arthur Kilpin Bulley a Liverpool Cotton Merchant, and it subsequently received an RHS Award for designs by Chris Beardshaw. It was given to Liverpool University in 1948 by Louis Bulley where much botany research was carried out.

Then onwards to Port Sunlight where members and guests were treated to a very interesting tour of this village created by the philanthropist Lord Leverhulme.

On Thursday our speaker was David Mason from Congleton who described his trek to the Himalayas to Everest base camp with fellow members of CRAPA.

Asked what the initials of this organisation stood for he replied :
" Congleton Ramblers and P---s Artists. Maybe a merger with Audlem SHORT – ARS could be in sight !!
