Broadband speeds

There have been many reports recently of unacceptable broadband speeds being experienced by users of AudlemOnline and of internet access generally.

The problem with trying to address this situation is that it is very difficult to prove any real figures and, in any case, the actual broadband performance fluctuates widely depending on all sorts of factors like exact location, ISP supplier, time of day etc etc.

Audlem Online has developed a technique for recording snapshots of the broadband performance which are recorded onto a table of results, and if we can accumulate enough data over a period of, say, a month then we would be able to address the appropriate authorities with some real data to back-up our complaints.

To take part in the surveyPlease click on "run test". The test will be run (this will take a few seconds) and the resulting data added to the database. The details of location are simply to allow us to determine whether there are particularly "bad" areas of the village, but individual anonimity will always be preserved.

The data recorded for each test will include

  • date & time
  • location (street)
  • computer type
  • operating system
  • ISP provider
  • browser type
  • download speed for test data set
It is of more importance to do this test at various different times of day, or different days in the week, rather than repeating the test over and over in quick succession.
