∫Bridgemere Garden Centre in Nantwich has been sold to new owners, it has been revealed.

Blue Diamond will now operate the popular centre and nursery, after acquiring it from Wyevale Garden Centres in a sale which is expected to complete in mid-September

Details of the changes were sent to members of the centre in an email, explaining that the new ownership would not affect day to day running of the centre, or membership of The Garden Club reward scheme.

"We are pleased to announce that Blue Diamond will continue to trade Bridgemere as a garden centre," the email said. "Blue Diamond Garden Centres are one of the largest garden centre retailers in the UK and the Channel Islands, with plants very much at the heart of their business."

Anthony Jones, chief operating officer of Wyevale Garden Centres, said: "The Blue Diamond team's decision to acquire Bridgemere centre and nursery demonstrates the strength and potential of this historic garden centre.

"I would like to thank all of our colleagues at the centre for their skills and hard work and wish them the very best under the new ownership."

Alan Roper, managing director of Blue Diamond, added: "As a horticulturalist, I am personally so pleased to be acquiring Bridgemere centre and nursery, which I have known since the 1980s.

"I look forward to focusing on its original virtues and to working with our new colleagues at the centre. I would like to thank the team at Wyevale Garden Centres for their support and professionalism throughout this process."

With a total area of 52 hectares (130 acres), Bridgemere, which was founded in 1961, is one of the largest garden centres in Europe, and receives around 1.8 million visitors every year.
