A group of village residents gathered outside Boots the chemist in Audlem at eleven o'clock this morning to observe the grand re-opening of the shop after complete refurbishment, possibly partly attracted to the occasion by the prospect of a free glass of Buck's Fizz.

Staff members in the photograph are Maureen Walley, Alison Ralph (manager), Emma Slater, Annette Hankey and Carole Smith.

Maureen Walley, looking only a day or two older than she did when she started at the shop in 1962, duly cut the tape. When pressed, Maureen said that nothing much had changed in the intervening 47 years apart from there being many fewer shops in Audlem than there were, but that the chemist seemed busier than ever.

The shop has been extended to include the former Bank premises next door, which has given it much needed extra space for display, and shop opening hours are being extended to include all day Wednesday.
