Ian Haughey says: Ever since I have known him, Audlem-raised Jack Marshall had a guitar of one description or another in his hand, or a drum stick.

To say he is focussed on music would be an understatement – he lives and breathes it, having recently left University with a First Class Degree in the discipline. He writes, plays and records from Hollow Floor Studio at Audlem's bottom lock.

Many may recall Jacks first venture at Audlem's Music and Arts Festival, along with Ed Cratchley and Mark Jones as the Defense, a punk band that made a huge impression.

Paul Moran, who booked them for that first Festival, soon became a big fan of the band and had them supporting headline acts at Audlem's Public Hall gigs.

I recall hearing a mix of 'the streets' by the band in a compilation of punk music from the likes of the clash, sex pistols, Buzzcocks and the Ramones to name a few and it was not out of place such was the quality of the musicianship.

Time and music progresses and this week sees the release of the 'Blue Moon' video, a birthday present to himself – it is, indeed, his birthday today. A far cry from Jack's punk phase, it pulls on a lot of influences that make his music seem so familiar, yet retains its own sense of identity and direction.

This whole video is a product of Hollow Floor Studios and features the talented vocals of sister-in-law Kirsty Marshall, and the musically talented nephew Alfie Jack, with input from Mark Jones and camera work from Theatrical Director Duffey Marshall, and if you look closely at the credits a few more Marshalls added to the mix.

This is no ordinary family video in the general context of such things – you would expect a professional quality offering from such a talented family and that's what you get with this video.

Jack recently performed his latest material live at Triumph Live 2012 event at Mallory Park, as well as gigs locally around the shires, all to great acclaim and reviews.

Anyway, make your own mind up, have a listen, and if you like it, share it with a friend and make Jack's birthday a little special this year.
