James O'Heir, born February 4th 1962, who goes by the name Jim, is an American actor and comedian best known for co-starring as Jerry Gergich on the NBC sitcom Parks and Recreation.

Following an early career in stage productions and improv comedy in Chicago, O'Heir began appearing in both films and television series including guest appearances on shows such as Friends, Boston Legal, ER and 3rd Rock from the Sun.

His character in Parks and Recreation is regularly ridiculed for astonishing incompetence in the performance of even the most basic task. Conversely, he exhibits exceptional ability in a number of fields such as classical painting; his idyllic home-life, including his beautiful, devoted wife and daughters is a complete mystery.

A colleague in the show, Ron Swanson, describes Jerry as someone who "shrivels up when you shine a light on him," insisting Jerry does his best work alone. Ron also describes Jerry as both the "schlemiel," and the "schlemazel," of the office, meaning he is both "the person who spills the soup – and the person upon whom the soup is spilled."

Jerry is known to his colleagues as Terry, Larry, or Garry. But rarely, if ever, Jerry.

"I've always loved the underdog characters."

Jim O'Heir
