As local character Billy Gibbons became the first person in the world to sell a cup of tea on eBay, millions of tv viewers saw Billy tell BBC North West Tonight reporter, Philip Bromwell, how to make a nice cuppa. Billy's secret is: warm the cup or pot or mug first and then add your boiling water to the required depth over the teabag; leave it for a little bit to ferment; then take the teabag out and put your milk in; then put in none or one or two or how many sugars you have. And there you go ..... a nice cup of tea. Potential eBay buyers asked Billy such questions as whether he stirred clockwise or anti-clockwise, whether the water was at boiling point and whether he put the milk in first.

As viewers saw, the mug of tea he sold on eBay for £12.50 was thirteen days old and was probably past its best. Billy's cup of tea also made news in the Sun, the Guardian (and that's not the local one!), BBC Radio 2 and Granada TV. Hardly surprising that the BBC's website lists the following as its 'unusual fact' about Audlem – "The great Billy Gibbons lives here. Billy's rock n roll show is fantastic; but he's better known for his obsession with 1950s sci-fi – he has a spaceship, er, stuck in the roof of his house!" The rocket may have gone but you can find out how it got there, and was later removed, in an article by Billy on www.audlem.org found via the Homepage Articles – click on 'Previous Articles'.
